Welcome! johari here, as in jo-HAR-ree… you got it!
As a child I decided to keep the first letter of my name lowercase, not really knowing why it felt so right. Many moons later while studying graphic design, I learned my little letter gave the anatomy of my name a much needed descender, which worked beautifully with the script I obsessively perfected.
To make this long, technical story short—I trust my inner child.
This trust has shifted both my career and my aesthetic. I spent nearly a decade as an Art Director working on big brands and baby brands, both at mammoth ad agencies and tiny design shops. I was a conceptual thinker with the organizational skills of a project manager, so I saw much freelance success… but my heart was still with crayons and construction paper.
Once I decided to trust my instincts, I gravitated toward illustration. My style features a childlike quality, full of raw texture and lots-o’-pattern. I build depth in my lettering with layers of color and tiny details that create what I like to call lil luscious letter love.
If you’re into that, let’s chat!
